Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young were America’s first Super Group. Bill Graham referred to them as
the “American Beatles”.
Consisting of former members of the Byrds, the Hollies, and Buffalo Springfield, CSN&Y was
based on the collaboration of four brilliant songwriters, ethereal harmonies, unique tunings,
masterful acoustic ballads and aggressive rock & roll played on big-body electric guitars blasting
through Marshall stacks on 10. Perhaps 11 if you go by David Crosby’s assessment of the stage
volume.
Our House, Suite Judy Blue Eyes, Guinevere, Lady of the Island, Find the Cost of Freedom, and
Helplessly Hoping introduced seamless harmonies that are recognized instantly. Rockers like
Wooden Ships, Woodstock, Southern Man, and Ohio breathed fire and revolution and drove kids
to their local music stores, clamoring for their first electric guitar.
Despite intense personal conflicts, break ups, reunions, drugs, women, more break ups, more
drugs, and still more reunions, they created eight massively successful albums that owned FM
radio. They played standing-room-only arenas for decades. No American band of their time had
as big of an influence on the shape of popular rock music.
All four members are two-time inductees into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Deja Vu Again is currently the only touring tribute in the US that recreates both their electric and
acoustic material in loving detail.
